3 Drinks To Start The Day
The first decisions you make in the morning are really important. If you choose to start your day in a healthy way you're setting yourself up for success - it's far more likely you'll make healthy choices throughout the day, your body will feel energised, you'll feel happier and your mind will be clearer.
There's loads of wonderful, positive ways you can kick start your morning including yoga, meditation, getting some fresh air and eating a delicious, wholesome breakfast but I thought I'd share with you the best drinks to consume first thing in the morning that will make you feel great and do wonders for your precious body. So, ditch the coffee and try out these ideas instead.
Lemon & Warm Water
This is my favourite way to start a day, I find it helps my digestion so much and my body feels cleansed and revitalised ready for breakfast. The biggest benefit of drinking lemon water in the morning is that it helps your body maintain an alkaline state, which is extremely important as this prevents disease, infection and inflammation. Lemon juice is fantastic for digestion too, it'll relieve bloating, heartburn and indigestion as well as firing up your metabolism. Lemon water is a natural energising as it hydrates and oxygenates the body leaving it feeling refreshed and in a happy state.
On top of all this lemon juice is rich in vitamin C, B6, potassium, magnesium, folate and thiamin.
Squeeze the juice of half a lemon into a mug of warm water and drink first thing every morning before your breakfast!
Warm Turmeric Milk
This is perhaps the most delicious and comforting of my three drinks and I especially enjoy this warming drink during the colder months. I make it by warming 300ml almond milk in a pan over a medium heat, then after about 5 minutes turn the heat to low and add 1 tsp turmeric, 1/2 tsp cinnamon, a dash of nutmeg and a little raw honey or date nectar. Turmeric is a true super-spice as it's range of benefits and powers are endless, most famously it's known for being incredibly anti-inflammatory which is so important to prevent diseases like cancer, heart-disease, Alzheimers and other degenerative conditions. Turmeric is also high in anti-oxidants, boosts brain health, treats joint pain and it even helps to fight depression! You see, turmeric is amazing for not only our bodies but our minds too! Adding cinnamon to your milk will give you the added benefit of balancing your blood sugar levels. Try it, it's delicious.

Apple Cider Vinegar & Raw Honey
This is a drink I've been trying to have more of because the benefits are amazing and I do truly feel wonderful for the whole day if I start my morning with warm water, apple cider vinegar and raw honey. Apple Cider Vinegar (make sure it's unpasteurised, raw and unfiltered) is a fermented tonic hosting powers we all need to make our bodies function brilliantly. ACV works miracles on digestion as it helps your stomach break down foods, reduces bloating and soothes the digestive tract. It also helps to maintain the good bacteria in your gut, which is essential for a healthy immune system and a healthy tummy. Apple Cider Vinegar has been shown to lower blood pressure, regulate blood sugar levels (it slows down the digestion of carbohydrates), soothe the skin, boost energy levels and even aids in weight loss as ACV suppresses the buildup of body fat. Apple cider vinegar is definitely a very strong taste, which is why I always add in some raw honey to sweeten it up!
