Why Radishes Are A Superfood


We're all so obsessed with green veggies - kale, spinach, broccoli and their other green plant friends are all so hyped up (and for good reason!) but it can make us forget about the other colour vegetables out there. I love to eat a rainbow diet, full of all sorts of fruit and vegetables of all different colours and one of my current favourites are radishes. Now, you might not of heard much about the humble radish but let me tell you, they're full of goodness!


Radishes are an edible root vegetable that comes from the same family as the cabbage. They provide a satisfying crunch and a unique sharp flavour and will easily become a staple in your kitchen! Radishes are great for adding to salads, incorporating into other veggie dishes and even make a nutritious snack on their own.
Now, let's get on to why I believe the radish is extremely under appreciated and why we need to be eating more of them!

Aids Digestions
Radishes are naturally cleansing in the digestive system and they'll help to break down food and eliminate built up toxins. They're also very high in fibre which really aids digestion and promotes regular bowel movements (I know.....but it's important!).

Hydration
Radishes are mostly made up of water so they're great at keeping you hydrated! Staying hydrated is extremely important for the health of your entire body - your skin will glow, your digestion will be better, you'll have more energy, you'll feel happier, you'll sleep better and you'll absorb other nutrients more efficiently too.

Boosts The Immune System
Radishes are super high in vitamin C which is vital for a strong immune system- this will help you to fight of infections! They're also a great food to consume if you've got a sore throat because they have the ability to eliminate excess mucus in the throat and clear the sinuses.

Keep You Looking Young
As I mentioned earlier, radishes are high in vitamin C which is a vitamin needed to build collagen. Collagen supports the structure of the skin and declines as we get older but by upping your vitamin C intake you're supporting the production of collagen to help your skin stay youthful!
Radishes are also high in B vitamins which are brilliant if you want healthy, glowing skin.

Stabilise Blood Sugar Levels
Since they're low GI radishes will provide you with slow releasing energy and should keep those blood sugar balanced out. Foods with a high GI will cause your blood sugar levels to spike then come down quickly which is not only unhealthy for the mind and body but will leave you feeling lethargic....radishes will do the opposite!
